2016 S2L2AAA

It's time again to get our annual lists up...  First of all, though, Dan, I know I missed your birthday...sorry...I'm a right bastard for having failed again in this regard.  You will have both a Christmas compilation CD and, of course, a copy of my 2016 submission listed below given to you--I may even send these to you so you don't have to wait on them 'til your next visit.  The Christmas compilation also served as a gift to Pastor Braband, who had retired after the last Christmas Eve service of 2015--a 2-CD collection of Christmas tunes called 'The Sacred and the Secular'...I've really been enjoying that one quite a bit, even out of season.

RE this project--I've been in discussion with more and more people about it, and most are drawn into the dialogue because it's such a captivating endeavor.  I've received several compilations from others, redid one to include songs that were somehow scratched off what she and her husband had loaned to me, and I have put together one compilation and am in the process of putting together another for a couple of people who have submitted their lists to me.  And one of the songs on the following is inspired directly by one of those individuals.  I won't say which song here, but I'm sure I'll include that info on my liner notes for the finished product.  Feel free to guess which one it is, though (Jon, you probably already know).

My 2016 list, well-tested, heard repeatedly, and absolutely songs I can listen to again and again, this is the order of the songs as they will be on my CD:
1. The Pink Panther Theme - Henry Mancini & His Orchestra
2. My City Was Gone - The Pretenders
3. Would I Lie To You? - Eurythmics
4. Spanish Caravan - The Doors
5. Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown) - The Beatles
6. Weather Channel - Sheryl Crow
7. Goodbye Blue Sky - Pink Floyd
8. From The Beginning - Emerson, Lake, & Palmer
9. Since I've Been Loving You - Led Zeppelin
10. Carrion - Fiona Apple
11. The Chain - Fleetwood Mac
12. Spinning - Zero 7
13. Does Everyone Stare - The Police
14. Redemption Song - Bob Marley & The Wailers
15. Cancion Del Fuego Fatuo - Paco DeLucia & Ramon de Algeciras
16. Chain Lightning - Steely Dan
17. Carpet Crawlers - Genesis
18. This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody) - Talking Heads

I don't have a distinct timeframe yet, but I'm looking forward to finishing the 2016 project and sharing it with any/all interested; and I've already got some ideas brewing for my 2017 list!

Blessings, everybody!

  1. I'll be working on my list, Josh. And to all: the more voices and songs, the better!

  2. We're all in Josh, and trying to provide universal access to a new song on the scene: "Wake Up" by the neo-legendary band 'Get Lost', featuring Joey at bass and backing vocals...
