Missing autumn:
Morning skies of paintbrush coral reef,
Norwegian red, gold and ombre crackly leaves,
Brisk air, bird song heights.
He lies hospital abed, barely seeing, not eating.
What if?
What if?
And I hear the response, the
Serif, the
Seraphim,
Who proclaim
God is in this world
This world of seeing and swallowing.
He's got this covered!

Outstanding panoply on countless levels, I'm indebted to Walker Percy's notion of 'carapace' here (and in my poem to follow, inspired in this thread), God paints for us to a) look, b) reflect, c) paint in humble gratitude. Indeed, God has everything covered, more than Sherwin Williams or any human institution could deign to design.
