This is a parsonage table!
It started in the North Dakota parsonage of Pastor Carl and Christie Monson, 1929.
Widow Christie boarded Concordia students in her basement, and it became a study table for Joe
Vold, John Haakenson, Lowell Bratrud and John Ylvisaker (composer of "Borning Cry").
In 1968 Christie gave the table to Pastor Joe and Marilyn Vold for their Glyndon, MN parsonage.
Then the table went to a Des Plaines, IL townhouse, an apartment, and two Park Ridge, IL houses.
Jonathan, Daniel, Joshua and Anne ate, studied, drew and gamed at the table for years.
Marilyn married Dick Jaeger and the table moved to a rural Blanchardville, WI log cabin, 1999.
Now it is bequeathed to New Hope Lutheran parsonage and Pastor Michelle Elfers, 2016.
Blessed be its continuing journey and what transpires at the old oak table!
TABLE HOME AGAIN
'Round sturdy table of oak
Babes, teens, maturing, aged sat.
How many words, books, midnight papers, and games
Countless meals, laughs, tears were had?
Absorbed into oak table
Are prayers, hymns, thanks and praise
"Oh the Lord's been good to me" we sang
Ceremonially all those days.
Candles shine upon the oak
And David's Lamp affirms a path
From woods to manse and back again
As prayers of daily bread will last.
Marilyn Patricia Elstad Vold Lamken Jaeger, June 2016
